Fairbanks Retired Teachers' Association

We are a group of retired educators, living in the Fairbanks North Star Borough area and in other parts of the United States, who get together on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, during the school year. We ask that all members planning on attending our lunch meeting to please RSVP for November, to Steve Heckman, (sjheckman@gci.net or call 907-347-6067). Raven Landing will be our meeting place for the 2024-2025 school year. We will meet November 13, 2024 in the Dining Room. Price is $17.00, includes food, drinks & gratuity, checks should be made out to FRTA. Our program is the Beth Gray, Aging & Disabilities Resource Centernorth.

At our meetings we provide updates on what the state is doing for educators and we are pleased to offer programs each month that our members have suggested. The main objective of FRTA are our scholarships, offered through an application process, to help students in their first year of their higher education.

We continue to provide support for the McKinney-Vento Education Program. The McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program ensures that students and families experiencing homelessness over the course of a school year have equal and full access to the same educational opportunities provided to other students. Our involvement is through monetary and necessary supplies through out the school year. More can be found at their website:
