Fairbanks Retired Teachers' Association

We are a group of retired educators, living in the Fairbanks North Star Borough area and in other parts of the United States, who get together on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, during the school year. We are researching a cost effective venue for 2024-2025. We ask that all members planning on attending our lunch to please RSVP for each meeting, to Steve Heckman, (sjheckman@gci.net or call 907-455-6036). Once we have a venue contract we will let you know here and on our Newsletter. Stay turned.

At our meetings we provide updates on what the state is doing for educators and we are pleased to offer programs each month that our members have suggested. The main objective of FRTA are our scholarships, offered through an application process, to help students in their first year of their higher education.

We continue to provide support for the McKinney-Vento Education Program. The McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program ensures that students and families experiencing homelessness over the course of a school year have equal and full access to the same educational opportunities provided to other students. Our involvement is through monetary and necessary supplies through out the school year. More can be found at their website:
